Verse and Reverse is a pair of black and white paintings in which the identical working procedures proceeded forward and backward in the opposite colors. I set up an instruction consists of four steps corresponding four layers on canvas, and practiced once in the original order and in the reversed order for each painting. The components of two paintings, such as the patterns and the pieces of torn paper, were the same ones, but randomness imbedded in the process did not create the identical compositions.
The instruction is;
1. Draw an optical art pattern in black on a square canvas.
2. Drop a few pieces of torn paper, paint over with white gesso, imprint the metal screen on the wet surface, and take the pieces off from the canvas.
3. Drop the pieces torn paper, spray black paint around the peripheries of the shapes, take the pieces off.
4. Connect the coordinates given by two random numbers within the size of canvas, by using squeegee and transparent bead gel.
